I was almost late for an appointment today and was waiting for a taxi.
I learnt something interesting about waiting for cabs.

As usual i would wait quite a distance away from traffic lights. This is because by right, cars are not supposed to stop near any traffic light. Its against the law.

After waiting quite a while, i found a cab which was just turning into the road i was in but before i could flag it down, it was flagged down by a lady just a few metres away from the traffice light.

The taxi stopped!
I signalled to the taxi driver that i was waiting first. . The lady was kind enough to let me have the ride. .

Maybe they should ban hailing cabs. So everyone would have no choice but to go to a taxi stand, and taxi drivers need not worry about where to look for passengers. And if they cant get to a taxi stand they just have to call!

When i asked the taxi driver, i found out something interesting.
According to the law, if the taxi driver stops for her, and not for me and i make a complaint, the taxi driver is safe.

If the taxi driver stops for me, and not for her, and she complains, the taxi driver is in trouble.
So whoever flags in front wins no matter how long anyone waits.

I guess it would just all boil down to courtesy and understanding between us waiting for cabs to do the right thing. Of course this is not a perfect world, and not everyone is nice and fair. So dun blame the taxi driver if he does not stop for u.
